New laboratory building in Ebstorf

Böhm Nordkartoffel constructs pioneering laboratory building in Ebstorf: focussing on efficiency and sustainability

Lueneburg, september 2024 | To meet ever-growing demands, Böhm-Nordkartoffel Agrarproduktion GmbH & Co. OHG (BNA) has started constructing a new, state-of-the-art laboratory in Ebstorf, Lower Saxony.

“We are increasingly reaching the limits of our current capacity,” says Dr. Justus Böhm, CEO of BNA. Steady growth in the EUROPLANT Group, regulatory changes, and new technologies and equipment requiring different spatial needs are the driving forces behind this new build. “Up until now, work has been spread across various locations – these will now be centralized in one building,” Böhm further explains.

After an intensive two-year planning phase, which included detailed analysis of all work processes, pathways, and materials, groundwork began at the end of April. The construction of the two-story building is scheduled to last 18 months, with completion expected by summer 2025.

The new facility will span a usable area of 2,000 square meters and will include a PCR lab, hygiene sluice, climate chamber, as well as offices and social spaces. The laboratory will enable a significant improvement in workflow and working conditions. “Employees are giving very positive feedback – they are really looking forward to the move,” says Dr. Justus Böhm.

A key focus of the project is sustainability: this energy-intensive building will be equipped with a photovoltaic system and battery storage units to supply most of the necessary electricity through on-site production. Additionally, a modern ventilation system with heat recovery will be installed to further increase energy efficiency. A rainwater collection basin rounds out the eco-friendly design.

This new construction represents a milestone for Böhm-Nordkartoffel, allowing forward-looking technologies to be implemented efficiently in an optimized, sustainable environment.
